COVID Relief Fund Information

Dear STPSB Employees,

The St. Tammany Federation Health and Welfare Board of Trustees has resolved to create a COVID relief fund using money from the Health and Welfare reserves.   The purpose of this fund is to compensate eligible participants who

  • Have been forced to isolate and/or quarantine because of COVID, with no available sick days, therefore having their pay docked.
  • UPDATE: Have been docked pay for medical reasons other than COVID because some or all sick days have been used for isolation and/or quarantine due to COVID.

At this time, funding is limited to $50,000.  Therefore, funds will be awarded on a first come, first served basis based on the post marked date of a completed and acceptable application.  In order for an applicant to be awarded funds, the following parameters must be met:

  • Be a bargaining unit employee, meaning you are eligible to receive the free dental benefit, who has been docked pay and is therefore experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19 (quarantining and/or isolating).
  • Have a completely filled out application with proper documentation attached.
    • Examples of proper documentation: documentation of quarantine, positive test result, and/or any other relevant documentation proving that you were docked days due to COVID isolation and/or quarantine for COVID related medical reasons.
    • UPDATE: If you have been docked pay for medical reasons, other than COVID, due to the fact that some or all sick days have been used for COVID quarantine and/or isolation, a doctor's note or any other medical documentation must be provided.
  • Mail the application to the Health & Welfare office in a manila envelope (no folded papers please):

St. Tammany Federation Health & Welfare

                Attn: COVID Relief Fund

                19295 N. 3rd St., Suite 8

                Covington, LA 70433

Currently, the amount of disbursement is set at $150 per day for each day docked at a maximum of three (3) days or $450.  The Health and Welfare employees will review each application and determine if the application is complete and if the parameters above have been met.  All decisions of the Health and Welfare employees as to the completeness and approval of the application are final, and decisions will be communicated within ten (10) business days of the receipt of the application.

Disbursement of the fund will continue until the COVID Relief Fund is depleted (present funding $50,000), the school system has implemented COVID days for employees, or the school year has come to an end, whichever comes first.

It is important to note:

  • The application can be found here.
  • This money comes from the Health and Welfare fund and not the Federation’s funds from membership dues
  • If COVID days are given and lost pay is restored by the school system, recipients will not be expected to return the funds.

Please feel free to email the Federation at sttamfed@charter.net with any questions for our H&W employees or simply refer to the upcoming FAQ on the Federation’s website.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Underwood,
St. Tammany Federation
Health and Welfare Trustee Chair
