Membership Recruitment Incentive FAQ

Membership Recruitment Incentive

FAQ

(We will update this page as we get questions.)

  1. Can I qualify for the incentive immediately after I join?
    • Yes, you can qualify if you meet the rest of the requirements.
  2. What if I recruit members, but I retire before October 31, 2023?
    • You can still be eligible to get the incentive if you join our retiree chapter immediately and there is no lapse in membership.
  3. What is the retiree chapter?
    • The retiree chapter is a newly formed chapter that you can join for $40 per year.
  4. How do I join the retiree chapter?
    • You can call the office at 985-888-1750 and ask to speak to Trudy or Sarah to set up an appointment to join or get the form sent to you by mail or email.  Once you have filled out the form and write out a check (or money order) for $40, you are a member. Beginning the 2022-2023 school year, you must be a member in good standing upon retirement to be eligible to join. If you retired before the 2022-2023 school year, you are grandfathered in and eligible to join.
  5. The document states that I will be issued a 1099 for tax purposes if I earn more than $600.  What does that mean?
    • The IRS requires businesses to issue a 1099 for any person earning more than $600 for a service that is performed.  Since this incentive is a recruitment incentive, every person who is awarded money is essentially being paid for a service they are performing.  You will just have to use the 1099 to record that income when you file your taxes in 2023.
