Write to BESE: Mask Mandate

St. Tammany Parish Public School Teachers and School Employees:

Given the contentious nature of the mask mandate, I would like to provide a simple means for you to contact BESE members as well as the governor. It is unclear whether BESE has the power to overturn the mask mandate in schools, but they will discuss and possibly vote on the matter at tomorrow's meeting in Baton Rouge at 9 AM. Use this platform to let them know how you feel. I recommend stating "VOTE YES for Ending the Mask Mandate in Schools" or "VOTE NO Against Ending the Mask Mandate in Schools" as your subject line. Given the divided nature of the community and our workforce, there is no form letter, so you will have to supply your own commentary if you choose.

As your representative, I will be in attendance at the meeting. Our initial online survey indicated 60% wanted a voluntary mask policy, but that was just prior to the return to campus and before the mandate. We will poll again prior to Sept.1, which is when the mandate will either end or be renewed by the governor. Wherever you fall on this particular issue, I think we can all agree that we are up against many of the same problems as last year.
